      A U-Visa is a type of nonimmigrant visa that is available to victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and who have cooperated with law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime. The U-Visa was created to encourage undocumented immigrants who are victims of crimes to come forward and assist law enforcement without fear of deportation.

      To be eligible for a U-Visa, the victim must have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result of the qualifying crime, and must have been helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime. The victim must also be admissible to the United States and must demonstrate that they would suffer extreme hardship if they were not allowed to remain in the US.
